The 2026 South Carolina State Fair Celebrates Tradition, Agriculture and Joy

The South Carolina State Fair has always been more than 11 days of rides, food and entertainment. It is a tradition planted deep in South Carolina – one that has grown for generations through family memories, community pride and a commitment to education.

“The South Carolina State Fair has deep roots in tradition, agriculture and community,” said Nancy Smith, general manager of the South Carolina State Fair. “For generations, families have returned year after year to make memories together, and many of our employees, vendors and exhibitors have made the fair part of their own family traditions. Rooted in Fun is a celebration of those lasting connections and the joy that continues to grow each year.”

The theme is a nod to agriculture, tradition and family, with fun planted firmly at the center of the experience. Rooted in Fun celebrates the deep agricultural roots of the South Carolina State Fair and the generations of families who return year after year to make memories together. From thrilling rides and indulgent fair food to blue-ribbon wins and hands-on exhibits, the fair is where tradition meets joy and where fun continues to grow.

Organized in 1869, the South Carolina State Fair is a self-supporting 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting South Carolina’s agricultural roots while supporting statewide education. Each October, fairgoers see that mission come to life through livestock, crops, flowers, crafts, competitive exhibits, food, entertainment and the unmistakable excitement of the midway.

Those roots reach beyond the fairgrounds, too.

Through the Ride of Your Life Scholarship program, the South Carolina State Fair helps plant opportunities for students across the state. Since 1997, the fair has awarded nearly $6.5 million in scholarships to South Carolina students pursuing higher education. The scholarship program is one of the clearest examples of what it means to be rooted in community. The fun of the fair helps support futures, goals and dreams for young people throughout South Carolina.

The theme also nicely aligns with the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and South Carolina’s roots in our country’s history. This year, the fair will bring some of that history to life through the SC250 Discovery Center, along with other red, white and blue surprises.

For some families, being rooted in fun means meeting at the Rocket every year, tasting the same favorite food or watching a child enter an exhibit for the first time that their parent or grandparent also entered. For others, it means discovering a new ride, cheering for a blue-ribbon winner, visiting the pig races or learning more about the state’s history and agriculture.

In 2026, Rooted in Fun invites fairgoers to celebrate where the fair has been, enjoy where it is today and look forward to everything still growing for the future.

Come celebrate traditions old and new, and make your own memories Rooted in Fun at the 2026 South Carolina State Fair, Oct. 15-25, 2026.
