Around the next bend a blast of cold air and the jaws of a polar bear announce your entrance into frigid Polar regions. This state-of-the-art traveling experience highlights all of the excitement and adventure of the Wild Kingdom. Best of all, it's free! Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom Adventure Tour features:

Wizards Challenge - Located in the Cantey Building - Explore the magic and wonder of science. Interactive displays with a variety of magical challenges and experiences. An excursion into the wild and amazing world of science through dozens of highly interactive, fun, and visually captivating displays an activities. This attraction was created so that families and children could experience the mysterious and entertaining aspects of science and technology in a casual environment without having to sift through facts and information. Learning occurs through hands-on interaction with the various exhibits, rather than through signage and information. Have fun participating in these activities: manipulate the robotic arm, create man-sized soap bubbles, use radar to measure your pitching speed, take the "sense of smell" challenge, dance in the "wall of light", create high-tech music, explore the "Rube Goldberg" machine, and much more.

At the end of the match, the crowd and an impartial judge decides which robot has inflicted more damage on its opponent.

"THE RIDE OF YOUR LIFE "

DID YOU KNOW? The majority of South Carolinians don't know that the South Carolina State Fair (a.k.a. The State Agricultural and Mechanical Society of South Carolina and responsible for the the establishment of the South Carolina State Fair) is an eleemosynary institution owned and controlled by life members. Contrary to popular belief, the SC State Fair is not affiliated with State Government. The South Carolina State Fair is a non-profit 501-C3 charitable institution.

In the past decade, the South Carolina State Fair has returned over $3 million to the community through scholarship endowments and grants to non-profit organizations.

This year fifty students were awarded a $2,000 scholarship to attend a South Carolina university or college for the 2007-2008 school year. These fifty (50) scholarship recipients may also apply for an additional $2500 scholarship in 2008 towards their sophomore year; ten (10) students will be selected to receive the additional $2500 scholarship for the 2008-2009 school year. A total of $125,000 was approved by the SC State Fair Board of Directors for academic scholarship recipients in 2007. All SC State Fair Scholarship recipients since 2005 will find a personalized banner flying at this years Fair.

Winners of the 2007 South Carolina State Fair scholarship program can be found by clicking on the following link:

>>>>>  LINK TO 2007 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS  <<<<<

The SC State Fair Board of Directors reviews the scholarship program annually in late January and determines any changes for the upcoming program. Scholarship applications for 2008 high school seniors will be available on the web site at www.scstatefair.org in mid-February, 2008.

CARNIVAL INITIATES A "SMOKE-FREE MIDWAY" IN 2007

Be a "cool duck" and don't smoke. According to the following statement in the NAME, June 2007 Issue 1 newsletter, our carnival workers will not be allowed to smoke during fair operating hours on the midway this year:

"This year we have introduced a SMOKE-FREE MIDWAY! To maintain a safe and clean work environment and overall appearance on our midways we prohibit any employees from smoking on the midway during operating hours."

More about our carnival: Did you know that North American Midway Entertainment has more certified ride inspectors on staff than any other traveling midway in North America? NAME also conducts extensive Employee Training programs; the most recent being a series of training videos. On-site training and workshops will continue throughout the season with visits from their Corporate Safety Director, Mike Rinehart and Media/ Customer Service Director, Amber Swedgan. The videos will be shown to every employee prior to working on the midway. The videos will include General Information, Customer Service, Introductory Midway Safety, and Amusement Ride Safety Training.

We applaud our carnival, North American Midway Entertainment, and the initiatives they take to provide a more pleasurable experience for all our guests at the SC State Fair!
