2007 SC State Fair Dates Announced

The South Carolina State Agricultural and Mechanical Society of South Carolina is proud to announce the 2007 dates of the 138th South Carolina State Fair...October 10-21. Mark your calendars now and be ready for the best twelve days of fun ever in October!!!

SC State Fair Receives Two IAFE Agriculture Awards of Excellence

For the third year running, the South Carolina State Fair received the IAFE Agricultural Award of Excellence for Best Exhibitor Handbook on the Web in the division for fairs with attendance of 500,001 - 1,000,000.

Top honors were also received for "Program Designed to Correct an Issue or Problem with Competitive or Non-Competitive Agriculture Programs". An essay was submitted describing the need, development, and success of the Online Entry System Tutorial in 2006.

Annual SC State Fair Employee Appreciation Party

SC State Fair seasonal employees were honored on Thursday, December 14 with an "Appreciation Party" in the Moore Building. Guests were treated to a BBQ dinner catered by Shealy's in Leesville and musical entertainment by Carl Brunson of Mullins, SC. Also in attendance were several members of The State Agricultural and Mechanical Society of South Carolina (The South Carolina State Fair) Board and their spouses. Decorations were provided by Displays Unlimited (George Crow)

Three seasonal employees were selected by their peers following the 2006 South Carolina State Fair and tapped as South Carolina State Fair Employees of the Year (contest sponsored by Paper Pro). Nancy Smith, Director of Exhibits & Sponsorship, presented plaques to each recipient. Congratulations to these deserving employees (pictured below) who demonstrate, each year, sincere dedication to the South Carolina State Fair.

Here is a listing of a few of the major events on the SC Fairgrounds in the first quarter of 2007: Bridal Showcase, A Grand Affair, Fast Boys Inc. Performance Swap Shop Sale, Boat Show 2007, Clean Sweep Sale, Hammond Auction, IPTAY National Meeting, RV Show, Thomas & Howard Food Annual Booking Show, Craftsmen's Classic Arts & Crafts Festival, Carolina Classic Home & Garden Show, Heart Ball, Mike Kent Gun Show, Palmetto Sportsmen's Classic, Columbia International Festival.

2007 SC State Fair Scholarship Applications

High School Seniors: The scholarship program is held annually beginning in February and announced via (1) e-mail BLAST to addresses in our database, (2) EDBLAST to Guidance Counselors from the SC Department of Education, (3) public service announcements in newspapers, and (4) letters to all public and private high schools in SC.

Applications will be available at http://www.scstatefair.org/throughout-the-year/scholarships/index.php in February, 2007. Scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors by the South Carolina State Fair. In recognition of each scholarship recipient, a personalized banner will fly on Academic Avenue during the Fair. The banner tradition began in 2005 with all the scholarship recipient banners since that time flying over the fairgrounds during the Fair.
