Carrie Outen Enjoying Retirement

After fifteen years of loyal service to the SC State Fair, Carrie Outen retired on Friday, March 30, 2007. Carrie plans to spend more time with her family and church activities. Carrie serenaded the staff and family members during her Retirement Party by singing one of her beloved hymns, reminiscent of the hymns she always sang as she worked. Well done, good and faithful servant!

2007 SC State Fair Scholarship Application Period Closed

The scholarship application period began February 9 and closed on March 21, 2007 with 600+ applications received. Fifty (50) deserving scholarship recipients will be notified by May 1, 2007.

The program was announced in February via (1) e-mail BLAST to our General E-Newsletter database, (2) several EDBLASTs to Guidance Counselors and teachers from the SC Department of Education, (3) public service announcements in newspapers, and (4) letters to public and private high schools in SC.

Applications were available for download at http://www.scstatefair.org/throughout-the-year/scholarships/index.php. Applicants are judged on overall performance and involvement, need, communications skills, and an aptitude for completion of application. In recognition of each scholarship recipient, a personalized banner will fly on Academic Avenue during the Fair. The banner tradition began in 2005 with all the scholarship recipient banners since that time flying over the fairgrounds during the Fair.
