Entries
in the production tested barrow class will be judged on
(1) Average Daily Gain, (2) On Foot and (3) Carcass Merit.

Only
Purebred or Crossbred Barrows will be accepted. |
| 4. |
Barrows
will be weighed and ear tagged on the farm July 3-11,
2008. These barrows will continue to be fed on
the individual farm and brought to the Fair on Tuesday,
October 14, 2008. County Extension Agents, Vocational
Agricultural Instructors, and the Extension Animal Science
Staff will weigh and tag the pigs on test. |

There
will be two (2) weight classes for Adults as follows:

60 to 70 pounds |
There
will be two (2) weight classes for the Junior Show as follows:

| 6. |
Classes
1703 and 1704
will be split into two (2) classes at the Fair by farm
entry weight to allow an even number of pigs per class.
Classes
1703 and 1704
will be divided as follows:
| a. |
Exhibitors
with two (2) pigs in a class will show one (1) pig
each in Group A and B. |
| b. |
Exhibitors
with one pig entered per class will be assigned
by starting weight to either Group A or B.
These
classes 1703A,
1703B, 1704A,
1704B
will each have the same premiums.
Junior
members will not be allowed to show in Classes 1701
or 1702. |

| 7. |
Each
farm or firm will be allowed to enter two (2) pigs each
in Classes 1701 and
1702. Each Junior
member will be allowed to enter two (2) pigs in Sections
1703 and 1704.
A total of two (2) pigs in the lightweight (1703)
and heavyweight (1704)
classes may be shown by a junior member. |

Producers
will be allowed to weigh and tag four (4) pigs per class
to select two (2) to bring to the show. |
| 9. |
Pigs
must be castrated before the weigh-in day. |
| 10. |
Entries
must be nominated by Monday, July 21, 2008. |
| 11. |
Barrows
must weigh 220 pounds or more when weighed-in on show
day, Tuesday, October 14, 2008 to be eligible to show.
Remember, pigs lose weight in hauling (3%). |
| 12. |
Entries
will be weighed starting at 8:30 AM on show day. All barrow entries must be in barn by 11:00
AM. |
| 13. |
The
South Carolina State Fair will supply the ear tags
for this class. |
| 14. |
All
barrows entered will be either electronically scanned
or slaughtered and carcass information obtained. |
| 15. |
Final
placing in each class will be determined by adding the
placing in each category (Average Daily Gain,
On Foot, and Carcass in
the class). Low score is the winner. |
| 16. |
Plaques
will be given for each class division winner in Average
Daily Gain, On Foot, and Carcass.

| 17. |
The
overall Champion will be determined from actual data.
The ratio of percent lean, determined from carcass evaluation
will be added to the ratio of average daily gain for each
individual pig. High score wins and ties will be broken
by the percent lean. |
| 18. |
A
Grand Champion on Foot will be selected
from the "top" placing barrows in each class.
|
| 19. |
The
premiums for average Daily Gain, Live
Placing, and Carcass will be
identical for all classes (Junior and Open Barrow Shows).
The number of placing in the Junior Barrow Show and in
the Open Barrow Show will be twenty (20). |
| 20. |
The
South Carolina State Fair will provide a trophy
for the Grand Champion on Foot Adult
Barrow. |
| 21. |
- Barrow
exhibitor must be minimum 5 years of age.

Dr. Howard van Dijk will have all Barrow Exhibitors complete an Official 2008 SC State Fair Swine
Entry form which will be returned to the SC State Fair Entry Office and placed on file.
