JUNIOR SWINE RULES AND REGULATIONS
AND HEALTH REGULATIONS

Open to youth between three (3) and twenty-one (21) years of age, to include owner or family members, FFA, FHA, 4-H and Cloverbuds. Exhibitors ages three (3) to eight (8) years old are encouraged to show May and April animals only.)

Junior Swine exhibits must be in place by 12:00 Noon, Thursday, October 9 and remain until released on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 12:00 Noon. The swine barn will be open to accept pigs from 12:00 Noon to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, October 8, and from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon on Thursday, October 9, 2008. Any change from this schedule without the consent of the Superintendent will result in forfeit of all prizes and premiums.

The Junior Purebred Swine Show for all breeds will start at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2008. All owners, whenever possible, should be present to show their animals. Animals in showmanship classes must be shown by owner or family member.

All livestock entries, regardless of age, must have individual, FFA Chapter 4-H Club, Farm or partnership registration papers. Any exceptions must be approved by Superintendent.

Any youth showing FFA Chapter 4-H Club, Farm or partnership animals, must have responsibility for the animal. Youth showing animals registered in Farm or partnership must be a member of owners'  family.

All Junior entries must meet the general rules and health regulations specified under "General Information."

Junior Swine entries may be registered using the Online Entry System at www.scstatefair.org or on a 2008 Official SC State Fair Swine entry form. Entry forms may be duplicated as needed. Do not mix Open and Junior entries on same form. Eligible junior pigs will be moved up by swine show superintendent.

No entry fee, stall rent or charge for passes will be made for Junior Exhibitors.

Junior members cannot show more than two (2) entries per class.

The "top" placing pigs in the May, April, March and February classes are eligible to show in the Open show under the following guidelines:

There is only one May class in the Open Show; hence, Junior Exhibitors may show their qualified pig(s) from either of the Junior Show May classes.
If Junior Exhibitor has more than two (2) entries in the Junior May classes, they move up any two (2) to the Open Show.
For classes with four (4) entries or less, pigs placing First or Second may show in the Open Show.
For Open Show classes with less than ten (10) entries, additional Junior pigs may be allowed to move to the Open Show or bring the number to ten (10).
Junior pigs selected for this will be the next placing pig(s) in the class.

Swine are required to be inspected on the farm of origin by a veterinarian prior to shipment and receive a Health Certificate which must accompany the animals to the Fair.
2.
All out-of-state swine must be from a Brucellosis-Free Validated Herd and be from a Qualified Pseudo rabies Negative Herd or a negative test within thirty (30) days. Have your veterinarian state the date of your latest test for brucellosis and pseudo rabies on all out-of-state health forms.

Each animal shall be permanently identified by ear notch or other means and be free of lice and mange. Health Regulations are subject to change by Clemson University Livestock-Poultry Health Division.
