QUILT CLASSES - IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ

A. 

Quilt entry classes reflect the class standards used by The Quilters of South Carolina and other quilting organizations.

B.  
All quilting will be entered by technique and size. The quilt size refers to the perimeter of the quilt (the measurement around the quilt). Measuring the length of all sides and then adding all the lengths together determine the perimeter.
C.
All entries must be the sole work of the exhibitor, except in classes for "groups". If someone other than the exhibitor does the quilting for a fee it must be entered as a "group quilt". .
D.
There is not a special class for "commercial quilting" (where one person constructs the top then pays someone else to do the quilting on a commercial or long arm machine). If someone other than the exhibitor does the quilting for a fee, it must be entered as a "group quilt".
E.
NEW IN 2010: School Group Quilt classes may be found in the Youth Division.
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING QUILTS

Design and General Appearance:

  • Quilt must be clean and neat
  • Visual Impact ~ colors, values and contrasts
  • Quilting Design~ consistency, proportion and scale, unity and balance
Workmanship:
  • Piecing and applique'
    Strong even stitching
    Consistent junctions, border widths and points

    Square corners 

  • Quilting:
    Stitches even, consistent, good tension
    No visible markings, lines and curves true

    Binding / Edge ~ smooth, consistent widths, stitched securely
