SC ROSE SOCIETY SHOW RULES AND REGULATIONS
1.
The South Carolina State Fair General Rules and Regulations shall apply in conjunction with The South Carolina State Fair Flower Show General Rules and Regulations.
2.
Entries will be accepted from 7:30 AM - 10:30 AM Friday, October 10, 2008. Enter Gate 11 on Bluff Road to Ellison Building. All entrants will sign in and be assigned an Exhibitor number. There is no entry fee. Judging of roses and designs begins at 12 Noon.
3.
Entries will be released on Monday, October 20, 2008 from 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM. Enter Gate 11 on Bluff Road to Ellison Bldg. All containers, accessories, and ribbons must be claimed on this date. The South Carolina State Fair and the Show Committee will not be responsible for items left after this time.
4.
Everyone is eligible to enter roses in the rose show. The exhibitor must have grown all entries in his or her own private outdoor garden. Exhibitors may enter as many roses as desired, provided each is a different variety. Husbands and wives must enter as a team.
5.
The Show Committee will furnish official entry tags and uniform containers. Both the top and bottom section of the entry tag must be completed. Judges will disqualify misnamed or misclassed entries. Classification as to variety and type will be in accordance with the current edition of Modern Roses, The Official List of Approved Exhibition Names for Judges and Exhibitors, The Handbook for Selecting Roses, The American Rose Annual and The American Rose Magazine.
6.
Wedging is permitted to stage a specimen in the container but should not be visible above the top of the vase.
7.
Ribbons for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place may be awarded. Cash awards of $1.00 for 1st place and $.50 for 2nd place will be awarded. There are no cash awards for 3rd and 4th Place. All awards will be paid by The South Carolina Rose Society.
8.
Neither The South Carolina State Fair, The South Carolina Rose Society, its members or Show Committee shall be responsible for any personal injury, damage or loss of any property belonging to an exhibitor. All due precaution will be taken, but owners must assume risk.
9.
Roses entered in the show become the property of the Show Committee.
10.
The Show Chairman shall be the final authority in matters of dispute.

SECTION A

ENGLISH BOXES

The Registration Clerk will issue English boxes on a first-come basis.

CLASS 1

Six (6) Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras
No more than two (2) blooms of a variety, exhibition stage, without foliage, one entry tag.

CLASS 2

Six (6) Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras
No more than two (2) blooms of a variety, fully open stage, without foliage, one entry tag.

CLASS 3

Six (6) Miniatures or Mini Floras
No more than two (2) blooms of a variety, exhibition stage, without foliage, one entry tag.

CLASS 4

Six (6) Miniatures or Mini Floras
No more than two (2) blooms of a variety, fully open stage, without foliage, one entry tag.

CHALLENGE CLASSES

NOTE:
Classes 5 and 6 are open only to current members of The South Carolina Rose Society; only one entry per Exhibitor or Exhibiting Team.
CLASS 5

The Arthur Cottingham Memorial Challenge
A collection of 3-12 individual exhibition hybrid tea or grandiflora specimens classified as light yellow, medium yellow, deep yellow, or yellow blend, to be staged in a container furnished on a first come, first served basis by the Show Committee; list varieties on one entry tag.

CLASS 6

MINIATURE AMERICAN BOX CHALLENGE
Nine (9) miniature exhibition roses, without foliage. Must have at least two varieties arranged in geometric patterns. Boxes will be available from Show Committee on a first-come basis.

SPECIMEN BLOOMS

CLASS 7

HYBRID TEAS and GRANDIFLORAS
Individual hybrid tea or grandiflora exhibition specimen, no side buds. Eligible for QUEEN, KING, PRINCESS, and COURT OF HONOR.
ARS Certificates
will be awarded.

CLASS 8

SINGLE TYPE HYBRID TEAS
Individual single type hybrid tea (5-12 petals), may be one bloom or spray.

CLASS 9

HYBRID TEA OR GRANDIFLORA SPRAY
Idividual hybrid tea spray or grandiflora spray specimen. Single - type Hybrid Teas (those having only 5-12 petals) are excluded from this class.

CLASS 10

FLORIBUNDAS
Individual floribunda exhibition specimen, no side buds
PRINCE OF SHOW will be selected from this class.

CLASS 11

FLORIBUNDA SPRAY
Individual floribunda spray specimen. Discreet disbudding permitted.
DUCHESS OF SHOW will be selected from this class.

CLASS 12

FULLY OPEN ROSE
Individual hybrid tea or grandiflora fully open specimen with stamens showing.

CLASS 13

POLYANTHA SPRAY
Individual polyantha spary specimen. Discreet budding permitted.

OLD GARDEN ROSES
CLASS 14

DOWAGER QUEEN
Individual exhibition specimen or spray. List date of introduction on top right hand corner of entry tag. Variey must have been introduced prior to 1867.

CLASS 15

VICTORIAN ROSE
Individual exhibition specimen or spray. List date of introduction on top right hand corner of entry tag. Variety must have been introduced in or after 1867.

SHRUB ROSES
CLASS 16

SPECIES ROSES
Individual specimen, may be one bloom or spray, naturally grown or discreetly disbudded.

CLASS 17

CLASSIC SHRUBS
Includes Hybrid Kordesii, Hybrid Moyesii, Hybrid Rugosa and Hybrid Musk. Individual specimen. may be one bloom or spray, naturally grown or discreetly disbudded.

CLASS 18

MODERN SHRUBS
Includes all roses listed as Shrubs (S).

CLASS 19

CLIMBERS
Includes Large-Flowered Climbes and Hybrid Wichuranas. Individual specimen, may be one bloom or spray.

CLASS 20

CYCLE OF BLOOM
Three (3) individual hybrid tea or grandiflora specimens, same variety. one container; one specimen one fourth open (bud), one specimen one half to three fourths open (exhibition stage), and one specimen fully open (stamen showing).

CLASS 21

THREE SAME VARIETY
Three (3) individual hybrid tea or grandiflora exhibition specimens, same variey, one container, one entry tag.

CLASS 22
THREE DIFFERENT VARIETIES
Three (3) individual hybrid tea or grandiflora exhibition specimens, different varieties, one container, one entry tag.
CLASS 23
FIVE SAME VARIETY
Five (5) individual hybrid tea or grandiflora exhibition specimens, different varieties, one container, one entry tag.
CLASS 24

FIVE DIFFERENT VARIETIES
Five (5) individual hybrid tea or grandiflora exhibition specimens, different varieties, one container, one entry tag.

Individual miniature exhibition specimen, no side buds. Eligible for MINI QUEEN, KING, PRINCESS, and COURT OF HONOR.

CLASS 26

MINIATURE SPRAYS
Individual miniature spray specimen.
MINIATURE PRINCE WILL BE SELECTED FROM THIS CLASS.

CLASS 27 SINGLE TYPE MINIATURE
Individual single type miniature (5-12 petals).

MINI-FLORA BLOOMS (EXCLUDES MINIATURES)

CLASS 28

MINI-FLORAS
Individual mini-flora exhibition specimen, no side buds. Eligible for MINI-FLORA QUEEN, KING, PRINCESS, AND COURT OF HONOR.

CLASS 29

MINI-FLORA SPRAYS

Individual mini-flora spray specimen. MINI-FLORA PRINCE will be selected from this class.

SECTION F

MINIATURE AND MINI-FLORA BLOOMS

CLASS 30 FULLY OPEN
Individual miniature or mini-flora fully open specimen with stamens showing. Single - type miniatures (those having only 5-12 Petals) are excluded from this class.
MINIATURE DUCHESS WILL BE CHOSEN FROM THIS CLASS.
CLASS 31

CYCLE OF BLOOM
Three (3) individual miniature or mini-flora specimens, same variety, one container; one specimen one fourth open (bud), one specimen one half to three fourths open (exhibition stage), and one specimen fully open (stamens showing).

CLASS 32

THREE SAME VARIETY
Three (3) individual miniature or mini-flora exhibition specimens, same variety, one container, one entry tag.

CLASS 33

THREE DIFFERENT VARIETIES
Three (3) individual miniature or mini-flora exhibition specimens, different varieties, one container, one entry tag.

CLASS 34

FIVE SAME VARIETY
Five (5) individual miniature or mini-flora exhibition specimens, same variety, one container, one entry tag.

CLASS 35

FIVE DIFFERENT VARIETIES
Five (5) individual miniature exhibition specimens, different varieties, one container, one entry tag.

NOVICE ENTRIES
Entries are limited to those individuals who have never won a blue ribbon in an ARS sponsored show.
CLASS 36

NOVICE HYBRID TEA OR GRANDIFLORA
Individual hybrid tea or grandiflora exhibition specimen, no side buds.
ELIGIBLE FOR NOVICE QUEEN.

CLASS 37

NOVICE MINIATURE OR MINI-FLORA
Individual miniature or mini-flora exhibition specimen, no side buds.
ELIGIBLE FOR NOVICE KING.
