IMPORTANT NOTICE

  • Hanging Baskets not accepted.
  • Potted plants will be on exhibit in the Ellison Building for fourteen (14) days. We use utmost care to protect the plants; however, we ask that you not bring a plant that cannot endure this time.

POTTED PLANT RULES AND REGULATIONS

Potted Plant entries must be registered according to the entry registration periods stated on Flower Index page and will be received on Monday, October 12, 2009 from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM. Not responsible for plants left before 8:30 AM. Enter the Service Gate (Gate 11) located on Bluff Road. Potted Plants will be judged (closed to public) at 1:30 PM. Show opens to public on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 3:30 PM.

All entries must be grown by the exhibitor and may be entered in grower's name only.

Due to space and for ease of handling, potted plants must be in pots not exceeding sixteen (16) inches from outside lip to outside lip across the top. Pots over sixteen (16) inches will not be accepted. Plants must have been in exhibitor's possession at least sixty (60) days prior to show.
5.
Hanging baskets are not allowed.
6.
Only one (1) plant to a pot unless specified in the schedule.
7.
Plants must be free of insects, disease and spray residue.
8.
Leaf Shine is not permitted.
9.
Spanish moss is not permitted.
10.
Potted plants in straw or ornamental containers are discouraged. A potted plant does not mean a hanging basket with wires removed. Foliage plants means grown for their foliage and not flowering plants without blooms.

An Award of Merit will be given in the Potted Plant Section if warranted. To be eligible, entry must be a blue ribbon winner, scoring 95 or over and named correctly. There will be a cash prize for the Award of Merit. Plants having won Award of Merit previously are not eligible to win a second time.

Only one (1) entry allowed per class.
13.
Due to limited space, there is a maximum of twenty-five (25) entries per person in potted plants.

If Class is not listed on schedule, entry will not be accepted.
15.
Plants will be released on Monday, October 26, 2009 between 8:30 AM and 2:00 PM. The SC State Fair and Show Committee will not be responsible for plants after this time. Ribbons for potted plants and cut horticulture must be picked up at this time. Ribbons will not be mailed.
THE DAVID G. ELLISON AWARD FOR HORTICULTURAL EXCELLENCE

The South Carolina State Fair will present in memory of Mr. David G. Ellison an engraved silver tray to the winner of the David G. Ellison Award for Horticultural Excellence selected from exhibits in the Potted Plant and Cut Horticulture Divisions.
