ENTRY REGISTRATION PROCEDURE:

  • Use either the 1) Online Entry System or 2) paper entry by postal mail. Register online and charge fees to a major credit card or mail completed paper entry forms and fees to SC State Fair, PO Box 393, Columbia, SC 29202 to be received in the Entry Office during the Open Entry Registration Period, 12 Noon on August 1 - August 31 at 12 Noon. There will also be a Late Entry Registration Period ($25 Late Fee) from 12:01 PM on August 31 - September 18 at 12 Noon.
  • Each Open Show Cattle Exhibitor is required to pay an Exhibitor Fee (will receive one vehicle hang-tag) for $5.00 to cover driver and passengers, valid for the duration of the show, in addition to an entry fee of $5.00/beef and $10.00/dairy per animal at time of registration. Exhibitor and entry fees are non-refundable.
  • Junior Show Exhibitors are exempt from paying an Exhibitor fee and entry fees with the following exception: Junior Exhibitors showing in the Open Show under a farm name require an entry fee. However, Junior Show Exhibitors will not be exempt from any late fees. Addition hang tags may be purchased at time of entry registration only.
  • Faxed entries are not accepted.
  • Entries will be accepted in chronological order in which they are received.
  • Upon receipt of your entry registration, a confirmation letter will be mailed (or e-mailed) to you and must be presented, along with health papers and Registration Certificates, upon arrival at the Fairgrounds. No Exceptions!
  • Prize money (premiums) will be mailed within thirty (30) days after the close of the fair. No claim that prize money has not been paid, or that there was a discrpancy in payment of the prize money won, will be considered if made later than November 30 following the Fair. Checks not cased within ninety (90) days of issue will become void and will not be reissued.
  • Vehicle Hang Tags - Please read carefully: Gate 5 vehicle hang tags must be purchased at the time of entry registration, as they will not be available at check-in, in the barns, or from the Superintendent. Also, Junior exhibitors receive one free hang tag and may purchase additional vehicle hang tags at time of entry registration. Please anticipate your needs and order accordingly. Gate 5 vehicle hang tags will be mailed to Exhibitor. You must have a Gate 5 hang tag displayed in your vehicle in order to enter Gate 5 - NO EXCEPTIONS!

ENTRY FORMS:

  • The Online Entry System is set up to mandate "required fields" be completed before an entry is submitted, thus insuring entry is complete.
  • Paper entry forms must be signed and contain information requested in order that Premium Breeder and Premium Exhibitor awards may be computed.
  • Accuracy, completeness, and promptness are essential in completing paper entry forms. Show catalogs and premium checks will be developed from this information.
  • Indicate if you plan to register entry(ies) in the Group Classes. It is not necessary to name the animal(s) which make up your group entry(ies) until after judging of the individual classes. Entries in group classes must have been exhibited previously in individual classes.
  • Fitters showing cattle for more than one (1) owner must complete a separate entry form for each owner's cattle.
  • All premiums will be paid to owners unless specified otherwise on the entry form.
  • Cattle shown in both Junior and Open Shows must be registered on separate entry forms if exhibitor is not the same in both shows.

ELIGIBILITY: All animals showing, except Crossbreds, must be registered with their National Breed Association.

OWNERSHIP

  • Any exhibitor, registering an animal in any name other than the bona fide owner, or owners, or showing an animal in a class for which it is not eligible, may, at the discretion of the Management, be barred from further showing, and any or all premiums previously awarded may be forfeited.
  • In all Group Classes (Dairy and Beef Divisions), only one (1) entry, per Exhibitor, per class is allowed. Bring individual registration papers to show ring at time of judging.
  • All animals per registration form must be same owner.
  • The breeder of an animal is the owner of the cow at the time of service; however, The American Angus Association officially accepts for competition herds purchased in entirety as bred and owned by the current owner.
  • Animals owned in partnership may be registered in proper classes in one (1) owner's name. Entry shall carry a footnote showing the actual ownership of the animal as appearing on the herd book records.

CATTLE REGISTRATION PAPERS should remain at the State Fair with cattle. At the discretion of the Management, registration papers may be called for in the Show Ring on all animals showing in Group classes.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: Cattle must conform to State Health Requirements. Health Certificates or testing is not required for South Carolina cattle. Out-of-state cattle from a Brucellosis Free State, or from a certified herd, or official vaccinates under 20 (twenty) months of age do not require Brucellosis Test. Out-of-state cattle from a Tuberculosis Free State or from an accredited herd are not required to have a Brucellosis and Tuberculosis Test within 30 days. Health certificates written within thirty (30) days are required and must accompany all out-of-state cattle. Please call (803)-788-2260 for additional information.

DAIRY CATTLE:

  • Cattle for Open and Junior Shows must be in assigned spaces no later than 12:00 Noon on Thursday, October 9, 2008. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • While an adult exhibitor's herd is registered in the names of different members of his family, all residents on one (1) farm, and while the herd is one (1) unit, all entries may be considered as a single exhibitor for Premier Breeder, Premier Exhibitor, Best Three Females and Exhibitors Herd classes; however, entries from the Junior Show wanting to exhibit in the Open Show classes of Best Three Females and Exhibitors Herd Classes must be in the individual Junior member's name and must meet the criteria of the two (2) Group classes. The Open entry fee must be paid.
  • Junior Dairy Show exhibitors must wear a plain collared shirt while exhibiting - no caps to be worn in the ring.
  • Junior Dairy Show exhibitors must show their animal in the confirmation class in order to qualify for showmanship classes.
  • If any Junior Dairy exhibitor enters multiple animals in the Junior Dairy Show, he/she must show at least one (1) entry in each class in which they have animals entered. Junior exhibitors may enter multiple animals in any Junior Dairy Show class (except showmanship classes) but each animal must be shown by a Junior exhibitor.
  • Dairy cows in milk will be milked in the milking parlor unless given permission not to by the Superintendent.
  • All cows competing for Supreme Champion will be milked out prior to competition.
  • All treated cows will be milked last.
  • Open Show exhibitors are required to wear a show harness and must provide their own.
  • Blood Typing for Parentage Verification -- Refer to the Association Rules.
  • The distribution of edible products to the public is prohibited in all Livestock areas.

BEEF CATTLE:

  • NO FITTING (ADHESIVE, PAINT, ETC.) FOR JUNIOR SHOWS. CLEAN & DRY, BLOW & BRUSH ONLY.
  • Show entries will be limited to the first 450 head received.
  • Exhibitors, cattle or equipment will not be allowed in the barns before 4:00 PM on Tuesday, October 14, 2008.
  • All Beef Cattle registered in the Open and Junior shows will be received on Wednesday, Octobert 15 and must be in assigned space no later than 6:00 PM.
  • Beef Cattle entered only in the Junior Show will be received on Friday, October 17 and must be in assigned space by 6:00 PM.
  • Bulls must be shown with nose ring or nose lead.
  • Any animal getting loose from the exhibitor twice will be excused from the ring and not placed.
  • Open Show exhibitors are required to wear a show harness and must provide their own.
  • Blood Typing for Parentage Verification -- Refer to the Association Rules.
  • The distribution of edible products to the public is prohibited in all Livestock areas.

ARRIVAL: Enter at Gate 5 on Assembly Street with Parking Hang Tag visible through vehicle windshield. Appropriate registration certificate on each animal must be presented to the Cattle Superintendent upon arrival at The South Carolina State Fair. It is most important that registration papers, together with official health certificates, be available on arrival to the fairgrounds and in the hands of the owner or herdsman in charge of cattle. Entry fees do not dictate stall space. Exhibitors will receive stalls only for animals delivered to the SC State Fair.

EXHIBITOR INFORMATION

  • PARKING: No vehicle will be allowed to park adjacent to any of the cattle barns. Exhibitors will load/unload their supplies and move their trucks to the parking area designated by the Superintendent.
  • CAMPER SPACE is available for Cattle Exhibitors on  a "first-come" basis, but space is very limited. Contact Charlotte Swafford at 864-656-3300 to reserve a camper space.
  • HOT SHOWERS are available for cattle exhibitors daily 8:00 AM-10:30 AM and 5:00 PM- 10:30 PM.
  • CHUTES -- No blocking chutes will be allowed in the barns. They may be placed in a designated area adjacent to the barn.
  • SIGNS -- The State Fair Management reserves the right to refuse permission for any individual exhibitor to erect or display any sign of objectionable size or content.
  • NO SMOKING -- State Fair policy prohibits smoking in any building on the fairgrounds.
  • NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES are permitted on the fairgrounds.
  • NO DOGS OR PETS, other than guide dogs, shall be permitted on the fairgrounds or in exhibit buildings during the Fair except when confined within the campgrounds or unless they are part of an authorized act or exhibit. Pets in the campgrounds must be leashed at all times.
  • MISTREATMENT OF ANIMAL: Management reserves the right to remove any exhibitor from the grounds who is deemed to be mistreating any animal.

CARE, FEED AND BEDDING OF CATTLE:

  • Owner is responsible for feed, bedding and care of his animals.
  • Cattle are to be watered and fed in stalls or at tie-outs, not on wash rack, in aisles or doorways.
  • Each exhibitor is requested to limit the amount of feed and hay brought into the show barn to one (1) day's supply.
  • A $10.00 per head, per day charge will be assessed to 4-H or adult exhibitors who fail to feed and water their cattle or maintain a clean exhibit.
  • BEDDING - DAIRY & BEEF CATTLE
>NO STRAW BEDDING ALLOWED IN BARNS;
>NO STRAW IN TIE-OUTS;
>ALL BEDDING OF WOOD SHAVINGS FURNISHED FREE;
>ALL WOOD SHAVINGS FURNISHED FREE FOR TIE-OUT BEDDING.
  • SICK ANIMALS may be released immediately, if a statement signed by a veterinarian is presented to the Superintendent.
14.

VETERINARIANS: Names and telephone numbers of qualified local veterinarians will be posted in the Superintendent's office. Exhibitor is responsible for any bills incurred.

15.

RELEASE:

  • Dairy Cattle will be released following the Junior Dairy Evening Program on Sunday, October 12.
  • Beef Cattle will be released at a time to be determined by the Cattle Superintendent. The latest time the cattle will be released is 10:00 AM, Sunday, October 19.
  • Any exhibitor removing animals without official release, not maintaining cattle and space, or failing to remove manure from exhibit to proper area, forfeits all prize monies.
16.

PAYMENT OF PRIZE MONEY:

Prize money (premiums) will be mailed within thirty (30) days after the close of the Fair. No claim that prize money has not been paid, or that there was a discrepancy in payment of the prize money won, will be considered if made later than November 30 following the fair. Checks not cashed within ninety (90) days of issue become void and will not be reissued.
