You
are invited to support our South Carolina artists by making
a financial commitment to purchase art from the exhibits
entered into the 2008 South Carolina State Fair Fine Arts
Exhibition.
The
application process for the 2008 Fine Art Purchase Patron
program will close on July 31, 2008 for Patrons desiring
personalized ribbons. For Patrons desiring a generic '2008
South Carolina State Fair Purchase Patron' ribbon,
the application must be received by September 15, 2008.
Purchase Patrons are provided individual appointments
in which to view the exhibition and select art work. You
may always purchase more than your commitment. Appointments
are made according to the dollar amount committed by each
patron. Selection dates this year will be Monday, September 29 - Thursday, October
2.
The
South Carolina State Fair Fine Art Exhibition showcases
the works of approximately 1,000 artists each year, and
includes both two-dimensional and three-dimensional media.
This is a juried exhibition that attracts many of the
top South Carolina professional artists as well as talented
amateurs.
The
Purchase Patron Program benefits both artists and patrons. Some Purchase Patrons have participated in this program
for many years, and have built very impressive collections
for their homes and/or offices. The artists are encouraged
to list two prices on their entry forms, one price (Public
Price) which is shown to the public during the fair, and
a lower price (Purchase Patron Price) which is shown only
to Purchase Patrons during the pre-fair selection period.
It is recommended that an artist give a lower selling
price to Purchase Patrons than in a gallery which sells
to the general public, but this is left to the artist's
discretion.
Art
works selected by Purchase Patrons remain on exhibit during
the Fair, and are claimed by the purchasers when the Fair
closes. The artist receives payment for their work, as
well as a ribbon upon which is imprinted the name of the
Purchase Patron or business. The SC State Fair
receives no commission from sale of artwork.
Purchase Patrons are provided free admission passes
to the Fair and receive an invitation to the Premiere
Awards Reception held on the evening of Sunday, October
5, 2008.
